There's just no stopping a man with a crossbow and zombie-ear necklace: Daryl Dixon of "The Walking Dead" is RedEye's Best TV Character of 2011. After 87,821 votes in the championship round, Daryl took the prize with 50 percent of the vote, defeating Abed Nadir of "Community," who earned 49 percent of the votes. The Twiigs service polls never add up to 100 percent for some reason, so Abed fans can take comfort in knowing that it was pretty much a dead heat. But we don't deal in ties at RedEye, so Daryl can claim yet another zombie ear. (Remember in last year's Halloween...

Danny Pudi's "Community" character, Abed Nadir, may have fallen short in RedEye's fourth Best TV Character Tournament this week, but the Chicago native thought the championship matchup was perfectly cast. After all, Abed's obsession with all things pop culture stands at the center of a series that constantly makes clever pop culture references, including to zombies. The reference was to "Shaun of the Dead" and not AMC 's "The Waking Dead," but still. "That kind of fits into the 'Community' world," he said of Abed's battle with "TWD" redneck Daryl Dixon.

Norman Reedus never wanted Daryl Dixon, the redneck he plays in AMC's "The Walking Dead," to be a younger version of Daryl's racist brother, Merle. He's definitely showing more sides of Daryl in Season 2 of the hit series, making the fan favorite both tender and tough. He's still a loner, but he's slowly opening up to individuals in the group. He's also become a real hero in the face of the zombie apocalypse. While other members of his group are ready to hang up the search for young Sophia, Daryl remains committed to finding Carol's daughter - most likely because he...

Norman Reedus doesn't watch TV, so "The Walking Dead" star wasn't familiar with any of the characters his TV persona, Daryl Dixon, defeated in RedEye's Best TV Character Tournament over the past two weeks. On Wednesday, the zombie-killing Daryl defeated Abed Nadir of NBC's "Community" to win the fourth tournament, and Reedus was pretty stoked to be the new champ. "I just want to thank all the people who are voting and the people who are watching the show and helping it become such a big success.

March 30, 2014 | By Soxman, For RedEye
I had a dream last night that as the White Sox took the field Opening Day, instead of "Thunderstruck" playing, the theme to AMC's megahit "The Walking Dead" oozed through the chilly spring air. Was the dream a premonition that the Sox's chances of winning the division will be devoured faster than ravenous zombies tearing apart a victim? Is it that my growing obsession with the show is rivaling that of my favorite team? Or maybe it's that I'm hoping the Sox get infected with a disease that consumes them with an undying hunger—for winning.

I caught up with "Community"star Danny Pudi July 13 at San Diego Comic Con where the Chicago native thanked fans for the show's success. Pudi also accepted the trophy his character, Abed Nadir, earned for being voted runner-up in RedEye's 2011 Best TV Character tourney, thanking his family and friends in Chicago and fans everywhere for the honor. ( Daryl Dixon, Norman Reedus' "The Walking Dead" character, won. ) He then hinted at a theme evident in the NBC show's panel later in the day. "Six seasons and a movie," Pudi says in the video clip above, "and we...

Viewers who thought last season's "The Walking Dead" shuffled along too slowly while its human protagonists yammered on about morality in a post-zombie apocalypse world should be happy with the Season 3 premiere (8 p.m. Sunday, AMC; 4 stars out of 4) . There's a whole lotta zombie-slaying going on. The season opens by putting us literally eye-to-eye with a decaying, remorseless walker. As the camera pans away, we see Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) leading his rag-tag crew into another Georgia farmhouse.

Wizard World Chicago Comic Con is upping its game again this year, bringing Michael Shannon, Zachary Quinto, Norman Reedus, John Barrowman, WWE Superstar CM Punk and comic legend Stan Lee to the Aug. 8-11 convention in Rosemont. Several of those names should be familiar to TV viewers. Chicago theater mainstay Shannon stars in HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and is currently on the big screen fighting Superman. He plays Zod in "Man of Steel. " Former "American Horror Story" star Quinto has gone on to play Mr. Spock in two "Star Trek" movies.

Maybe the folks who vote for Emmy nominations couldn't decide which clone character in BBC America's "Orphan Black" should have earned Tatiana Maslany an Emmy nomination. More likely, they simply snubbed a genre series once again. Maslany brilliantly embodied seven clones in the sci-fi conspiracy series, giving each character her own ticks, accent, attitudes and personality. She was rarely off screen, often playing opposite herself in a seamless trick of filmmaking. She won the Critics' Choice award for best dramatic actress.

Norman Reedus took a few minutes out of his busy schedule at San Diego Comic Con July 13 to accept his award for winning RedEye's 2011 Best TV Character Tournament. Actually Daryl Dixon, Reedus' character in AMC's "The Walking Dead," was voted "best" by RedEye and Show Patrol readers last winter over finalist Danny Pudi 's "Community" character, Abed Nadir, and the 30 others contestants. ( Click here to see the trophy, a mock RedEye cover .) "Thank you fans for voting for me; it is quite the honor," Reedus said as I presented...
