Lucasfilm announced Monday that the recently completed fifth season of its animated "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" would indeed be the last on Cartoon Network. In a message and video to fans on the starwars.com site, supervising director Dave Filoni and Lucasfilm explained the decision and offered a peek of what is ahead for the franchise after Disney purchased Lucasfilm more than five months ago. Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka go undercover on the planet Zygerria in the second chapter of the current three-part arc on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars. " In "Slaves of the Republic,” airing at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 on Cartoon Network, Anakin, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka attempt to locate missing colonists amongst the slavers on Zygerria. Anakin struggles with his emotions as a wily Zygerrian queen forces him to take questionable actions in order to carry out his mission. It's finally happening: Darth Maul returns to "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" on March 9. In "Brothers," airing at 7 p.m. Friday on Cartoon Network, dark warrior Savage Opress searches for his long-lost brother, Darth Maul. It's been more than a decade since his gruesome bisection at the blade of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Savage voyages into the depths of a twisted planet to find whatever became of the fallen Sith Lord. "Maul lives in the depths of a ruined world as a shattered madman barely held together by dreams of vengeance," says LucasFilms.

Ahsoka Tano faces trial in the High Courts of the Galactic Republic in the shocking Season 5 finale of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
