With the Bears (4-3) on their bye week, all Chicago fans had to do was sit back, relax and watch the other NFL action unfold, right? Not exactly. Even at this point in the season there are playoff implications to worry about. So how frightening were some of the results Sunday?   Detroit 45, Denver 10 Fear factor: 4 out of 4 An upset by the Broncos would have pulled the Bears even with the Lions (6-2) in the loss column. Instead, Detroit QB Matthew Stafford proved effective even at less than 100 percent. And the Bears play the Lions again Nov. 13.   St. Louis...

It's just a tremendous week for sports here in Chicago. Oh, you thought I was talking about the Bulls and Blackhawks playoffs starting this week? No. I'll get to that. This is the week we got to watch how it's done in baseball. The Red Sox visiting the White Sox. The Cubs in the Bronx. Rick Hahn, Theo Epstein: Hope you were watching and learning. Cubs in NYC. Look over there! It's Joe Girardi! Remember him? He's the guy who used you to get more cash from the Yankees. Memo to Epstein and Hoyer: He was never interested in you, ever.

We did Christmas cards last week, and since it's Christmas Eve Eve, I'll share my Chicago sports Christmas list with you. > > For the Bears: I want a new GM. Seriously. Jerry Angelo's oversights have pushed me over the edge. Thanks to an unbelievable combination of pride and stupidity, a playoff team will be staying home. That is unforgivable. I want someone young, smart and a step ahead. Not the guy who's the last man on the planet who knows what a good quarterback is and what a good receiver is. And what a good bet on the offensive line is. Whoever the Theo Epstein of football...

Another baseball postseason, another year without a Chicago team. Which is why RedEye has recommendations as to who deserves your rooting interest. WHY YOU SHOULD ROOT FOR THE ATLANTA BRAVES Why should Chicago fans should root for the Braves this baseball postseason? The key is to remember that this team has something for fans of both Chicago teams. Cubs fan? Watch what happens when a team actually invests in its farm system (starters Jason Heyward, Freddie Freeman and Andrelton Simmons were drafted by the team and blossomed into starters in a short time)

In the past two episodes of "Torchwood: Miracle Day," Rhys Williams has gone from stay-at-home dad to an unofficial Torchwood team member. That suits Kai Owen, who has played the worrying husband of alien fighter Gwen Cooper since the series began, just fine. "Believe you me, Rhys comes back into it in big style," Owen said by phone from London last week. "He's very much involved. He's taking orders from Gwen and helping her save the world, you know?" Owen says Rhys will never be a full member of Torchwood, the once secret organization currently trying...

As a stringer for The Associated Press covering the Cubs and White Sox, Ravenswood's Travis Miller is used to watching a lot of baseball games. "125 games I covered last year," he said. Multiply that number by 40 and you'll have a rough estimate of how many he's going to be watching this year. "When you're in the press box, you can't be cheering for teams," he said. "I just want to reconnect with why I love what I do. " The 27-year-old Mets fan was one of two Chicago-area residents - the other being 27-year-old Marcus Hall, a White Sox fan from Aurora - selected to...

This just in from Canada: The Vancouver Canucks held an online contest to pick the song the team skates out to before the game (Japandroids beat out Nickelback). C'mon, we all know Chicago never takes a backset to Vancouver. These blood-pumping tunes are guaranteed to get Chicago crowds amped from the start. . Cubs "Riding The Storm Out," REO Speedwagon I almost suggested "L's Anthem" by Lil' Durk, honestly, both for local ties and the fact the Cubs see a lot of "L"s over the course of the season.

After working on his comedic chops at both ImprovOlympic and Second City, Chicagoan Joe Nunez moved to L.A. in 2001 to pursue an acting career. You might know him as Manche Sanchez in “Prison Break,” the guy who hit Will Smith with his car in “The Pursuit of Happyness,” the unhappy liquor store employee in “Superbad” or as Lupe's brother who takes Buster with him to work in “Arrested Development.” But despite living in L.A. for...
