It's been 32 years since the Beastie Boys were founded, but the band's fan base is as strong as ever. And although no one can replace the now-defunct band, Chicago fans can pay tribute to Mike D, MCA and Ad-Rock thanks to their female counterparts in She's Crafty, an all all-female Beastie Boys tribute band. "We're bringing other peoples' memories of music alive and sharing it and having a good time," said Amy Sumpter, 35, of Lakeview. "I love that. MCAmy: "Get It Together " “I still remember where I was the first time I heard 'Ill Communication'--at a work picnic. My best friend's crush was DJing (did I mention I worked at Medieval Times?), I heard the song and I was hooked. The dance floor would fill up every time he played that jam. Later I realized I really like to karaoke it. This song just sticks to me. " Sara Tea: "Stand Together" “I had this on a copied cassette given to me in 6th grade; it blew my mind.

** out of four During Sunday's VMA Awards on MTV, Eminem lifted a publicity move straight from Jay-Z, announcing the release date of his new album during a Beats by Dre commercial, because apparently that's how old rappers announce their albums these days. This isn't just ANY album though--Em said the album would be the "Marshall Mathers LP 2," a sequel to the classic record that solidified Em's place in hip-hop lore, and it will be produced by Rick Rubin and Dr. Dre, no less. Not surprisingly, the first single from the LP, called "Berzerk,"...

Recently at a New York deli, a woman called the employees idiots and said both they and the way they cooked her food were disgusting. Kathleen Hanna, long a powerful voice for human decency as frontwoman for influential '90s punk band Bikini Kill, was there. And she couldn't stand by in silence.   “I actually got up in this woman's face and called her some really bad names,” says Hanna, now the singer of the Julie Ruin and the subject of the documentary “The Punk Singer,” opening Dec. 6, by phone from New York.

Two Chicago private school employees are scheming on a thing that's "Sabotage. " Duane Freeman and Mike Ferbrache didn't expect a remake of the Beastie Boys' "Sabotage" video--which was directed by Spike Jonze in 1994--to get much attention beyond their students and faculty at Francis W. Parker K-12 School in Lincoln Park. It was just a fun way to showcase the school's librarians in a new light for an annual variety show for the students in May. Until last week, the near shot-for-shot redo of the cheesy cops and...
