BBC America has given us a first look at its upcoming drama "Copper. " The teaser shows the series' main protagonist, Det. Kevin Corcoran (Tom Weston-Jones) shooting someone, pummeling a prisoner with brass knuckles, sitting in bed with what appears to be a hooker, and getting reprimanded by his boss. Obviously this copper ain't no saint. But Corcoran, an Irish-American cop working the mean streets of New York City's Five Points neighborhood in 1864, has an ax to grind: He's searching for the baddies who kidnapped his wife and killed his daughter.

Summer TV season really gets going in June with the returns of several favorites and the premieres of what are bound to be new ones. I'm looking forward to "Halt and Catch Fire" on AMC, "Rectify" on SundanceTV, "Orange is the New Black" on Netflix, "The Musketeers" on BBC America, "The Last Ship" and "Falling Skies" on TNT, the final season of "Wilfred" on FXX and the new "Tyrant" on FX, "Endeavor" and "Vicious" on PBS and "The Leftovers" on...

With the dark cloud that hangs over us all with the loss of Twinkies in America, we get a brief sliver of sunshine in the arrival of a new Doctor Who "minisode" which just aired in the UK as part of the BBC 's " Children In Need " television fundraiser. This "minisode" titled " The Great Detective " leads into the Christmas Special which will be airing on BBC America over the Christmas holiday. It gives us a glimpse of the Doctor's current state-of-mind, and even a brief preview of the chemistry between Matt Smith and his new "companion" ...

BBC One on Saturday aired a trailer that teases the upcoming "Doctor Who" 50th anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor. " The trailer doesn't actually show any footage from the 75-minute episode, but it celebrates 50 years of the Doctor by presenting all 11 Doctors, including the first, William Hartnell, who is seen in full color for the first time. The network also released an exclusive image of the 11 Doctors. "I've been running all my lives through time and space, every second of every minute of every day for over 500 years," the current Doctor (Matt...

All for one, and one for all! That famous phrase is the first thing that came to mind when I saw the first images from BBC America's upcoming "The Musketeers," the latest adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' "The Three Musketeers" novel set to air in 2014. The images show Luke Pasqualino ("Skins") as young D'Artagnan, who joins the Musketeers for many an adventure. Tom Burke ("The Hour") plays Athos, Santiago Cabrera ("Merlin") stars as Aramis, and Howard Charles (Royal Shakespeare Company)

Chris Hardwick is a busy guy. He runs the popular podcast and website The Nerdist and travels the county doing standup. Last fall, his "Talking Dead," the popular aftershow in which he and guests dissect each episode of "The Walking Dead," grew to an hourlong chat fest. As if Hardwick doesn't have enough on his plate, his "The Nerdist" specials on BBC America have been transformed into a weekly variety/interview show. "I'm pretty good with time management," he told me earlier this week.

In the real world, December means holidays. In the world of TV, you add a word to that: special. Here's a look at some of the season and series premieres this month, but more importantly, the specials. And most of those are holiday specials. And most, most importantly, the Dec. 25 premiere of the latest "Doctor Who" holiday special on BBC America: "The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe. " Remember, I'll be updating this list all month as I find more premieres and specials. If you see that I'm missing something, please leave a (nice...

Doctor Who has found his new companion. Jenna-Louise Coleman will replace Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill in the long-running series when their characters make a "heartbreaking departure" later this year. BBC and BBC America announced the casting of 25-year-old Coleman on Wednesday, saying she will join series star Matt Smith for "Doctor Who's" 50th anniversary year. Six episodes of the 14-episode season will air on BBC America sometime this fall followed by the annual Christmas special, which will be Coleman's first appearance on the...

BBC America's latest import, the crime drama "Broadchurch," caused such a stir in Britain earlier this year that bookies were making odds on who the killer was. Its success even inspired Fox to plan an American version. The eight-part series earns the hubbub. Despite some flaws, "Broadchurch" ( 9 p.m. Aug. 7, BBC America; 3 stars out of 4 ) is beautifully filmed, sharply directed and intensely acted. The whodunnit opens with the discovery of 11-year-old Danny Latimer's body at the bottom of beachfront cliffs in Broadchurch.

Chris Hardwick started his showbiz career as co-host of MTV's "Singled Out" in the mid-1990s, which, um, maybe was cool. Now, as ruler of a growing Nerdist empire, he's making nerds more popular than ever. In addition to his hit Nerdist comedy podcast and blog , the stand-up comedian, actor, TV personality and voice artist reviews gadgets on "Attack of the Show," hosts "Web Soup," contributes to Wired magazine and has authored a book, "The Nerdist Way," which drops Nov. 1. He also appears at nerdtastic events,...

When Tom Weston-Jones saw his face pop up on a giant screen at San Diego Comic Con in July, he stopped dead in his tracks to watch. BBC America, taking advantage of the popularity of "Doctor Who," showed a trailer for its series "Copper" to the thousands of "Who" fans who had crammed into Hall H for the sci-fi hit's panel. For many it was the first introduction to Weston-Jones, a 25-year-old British actor with just a few TV credits to his name. For Weston-Jones, seeing the show's trailer in that situation was inspiring and humbling, he...
