Death Cab for Cutie, Dismemberment Plan to play Hideout Block Party/Onion A.V. Fest

May 28, 2014|By Ernest Wilkins, @ernestwilkins | RedEye Soundboard

Death Cab for Cutie will headline the 2014 installment of the Hideout Block Party/Onion AV Fest (Sept. 5-6 at Hideout), organizers announced Wednesday. Joining the iconic indie rockers will be The War on Drugs and Mac DeMarco, both of whom released a new album earlier this year. (The War on Drugs even made a song called "Red Eyes." We appreciate the nod, guys!)

Festgoers can also expect to hear from the D.C. unit The Dismemberment Plan, whose 2013 album "Uncanney Valley" was the band's first in 12 years. For those concerned that this event will be absolutely devoid of anything resembling a heavy bassline, rest easy. The Funky Meters, an offshoot group featuring members of legendary funk pioneers The Meters, will be "Cissy Strut"-ing all over the place.

If you need another reason to attend, the Handsome Family did the theme for "True Detective" last season, so get your Rust Cohle costume together and get after some tickets. The early bird package has already sold out, but you can still snag two-day passes ($65) here.
