Did the Bears outsmart themselves in the draft?

I can't wait to start nitpicking the Bears draft.

I'll start with just a basic complaint. As for all the guys Phil Emery drafted this year, they all have one thing in common: I've never heard of any of them.

And, as noted here briefly, nobody knows anything. Every guy in a bad suit sitting on a couch on TV tried to convince me the Bears were taking a safety, and of course they didn't. People actually had me wanting a Calvin Pryor or a Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

And of course, the Packers get Clinton-Dix, and I'm envious. Jealous, you could say. Nick Saban's guys are always ready to play. See: Eddie Lacy.

So again, I'm left with this sinking feeling that Emery takes a certain amount of joy in picking guys no one thinks he will.

This can be a) exciting and b) dangerous. Dangerous because he will always be trying to outsmart himself. Exciting because, hey! Kyle Long!

Although here's an observation: Emery loves genetics. Kyle Fuller and Brock Vereen both have brothers in the NFL. So if you're making a mock draft for 2015 (don't laugh—some nerds already are!), find the guys with siblings already in the NFL. Those will be Emery's guys.

Anyway, after this draft I am simultaneously optimistic, drained and exhausted after waiting the additional two weeks. Yes on moving it around. Chicago next year, please. And move it back to April.

So it's time to celebrate again. The beloved Blackhawks continue down dynasty road. Yes, even Corey Crawford is rounding into elite status. The complaint? It's hard to stay up until overtime.

So what I'm suggesting is let's actually schedule the overtime periods. That way we can DVR it and not miss anything. So, it's like: Hawks vs. Wild, 7-10 p.m. Overtime starts at 10:15.

Also, when you're out with friends you can always say, "I gotta get home for the overtime at 10:30."

Seriously, it's a great out.

And this week's out is … Tom Thibodeau. Yes I'm still mad at him for burning out the Bulls, but I keep seeing odd headlines: "Lakers interested in Thibodeau" and "Warriors interested."

All I can say is, back off, he's still ours!
