How do you know summer has finally come to Chicago? Street festivals. Mayfest, now in its 18th year, is the unofficial start of the season. That means it's time to dig up all the necessary accessories (sunscreen, tank top, flip-flops) and head to the corner of Ashland and Barry avenues to soak up the sunshine, music and fest food.

Mayfest

Where: 3100 N. Ashland Ave.

When: 5-10 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

How much: $10 admission

Don't miss: Mayfest is a great summer primer, combining all your fest basics: summer music (Too White Crew, Wedding Banned, Hairbangers Ball, This Must Be The Band and others), Bud Light beer and Rex Goliath wines and food vendors. Plus, take your pet to visit the annual Chicago Pet Pageant (Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.) for a chance to participate in a costume contest, dog kissing booth and pet adoptions.

#GETFESTED

RedEye is launching a new feature this summer: our fest test. Check back here each week for a new challenge designed to help you make the most of the weekend. Snap a photo of yourself or a friend completing the challenge and post it to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #getfested. The best will make it to our paper and website!

This week's challenge: Have a cute puppy (or a friend with one)? Show us a sweet dog enjoying the sun at Mayfest using the hashtag #getfested.
