Uptown Sonic to hold grand opening May 6

April 23, 2014|By Mick Swasko, @swasko | RedEye

Holy tater tots, the wait is over.

After the brutal winter cold delayed concrete pouring for their drive-in, the Sonic in Uptown will hold its grand opening May 6.

Tressa Feher, Ald. James Cappelman's chief of staff in the 46th ward, said Wednesday that a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 9:30 a.m. May 6 at the 1016 W. Wilson Ave. location.

Previously, the office said "late March" would be the target for the grand opening, and that the delay was partly because concrete materials didn't set properly in the cold weather. Prior to that, the target date had been January.

A Sonic spokesperson confirmed the grand opening will be held May 6. The ribbon cutting will not be open to the public, but food service will start later that day.
