Two men were arrested Monday night after police officers, who pulled them over for running a stop sign in Lakeview, discovered they had half a pound of pot in the car, county prosecutors said.

Gerrick Birt, 24, of Matteson, Ill., and Mikal Johnson, 23, of the 1200 block of West Belden Avenue, were charged with felony possession of cannabis after police officers allegedly found in their car two bags of weed and one scale, which Johnson admitted belonged to him, according to the police report. The pot was worth more than $1,400, the report said.

Birt and Johnson had been driving in Lakeview when they were stopped by police officers who allegedly saw the car, which Birt was driving, run through a stop sign at the corner of Sheffield Avenue and Roscoe Avenue just before midnight.

Birt and Johnson were brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon and ordered held on $50,000 bond.
