Goonies 2 sequel in the works, Spielberg wrote the script

April 22, 2014|By Mick Swasko, @swasko | RedEye

Hey, you guys?

A sequel to 1985's Goonies is apparently in the works, with the hopes that everyone in the original cast returns, according to SlashFilm. The site sources Richard Donner—the original film's director—who recently said Stephen Spielberg has come up with the story for the sequel, which would take place 30 years after the original film, and feature Mikey and the gang's children.

Of course, with all things Hollywood, concepts and scripts tend to take years to develop and sometimes don't see the light of day. And while it would be great to see everyone return, John Matuszak, who played Sloth, died in 1989; Mama Fratelli—Anne Ramsey—died a year before that.

According to SlashFilm, several cast members, including Josh Brolin, have expressed interest.
