A Target employee was accused of stealing $1,700 worth of iPads from the State Street store early Wednesday morning, county prosecutors said Thursday.

Billal Muammar, 22, of Chicago Ridge, Ill., was arrested at about 8:30 a.m. just as he was finishing his shift at the Target at 1 S. State St. when he attempted to leave the store with three iPads in his backpack that he did not pay for, according to the police report.

Muammar was seen by a security guard on security camera footage removing the iPads from a Target stockroom and bringing them into the employee locker room, where he placed them in his own bookbag, the report said. He was caught when he clocked out at the store and allegedly still had the electronics in his possession.

Muammar was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on Thursday afternoon and released on a $20,000 I-bond with electronic home monitoring required.
