The CTA sales center is closing Friday.
The CTA is closing its sales center Friday as it moves closer to transitioning to Ventra, its new fare payment system.
CTA riders have long been able to purchase fare cards at the sales center, which is on the second floor of CTA headquarters at 567 W. Lake St. The CTA is encouraging riders to visit the Ventra customer service center for fare card help, around the corner from headquarters at 165 N. Jefferson St.
Riders can still purchase disposable CTA fare cards at stations and autoload their Chicago Cards until May 1. Riders will no longer be allowed to use their Chicago Cards or reload disposable cards starting June 1.
Full Ventra transition is slated for July 1, when riders can no longer use disposable cards.
The CTA was supposed to transition to Ventra in December but slowed the switch so Ventra vendor Cubic Transportation Systems could correct glitches that the CTA said have now been fixed.
