March 05, 2014|By Ernest Wilkins, @ErnestWilkins | RedEye Sound Board

Classixx has a simple mission: Get you feeling good. The Los Angeles-based production/DJ duo (real names: Tyler Blake and Michael David) went from remixing popular tunes to scoring a critical darling last year with "Hanging Gardens." an album of original tunes that sound like concentrated summertime. Seeing as the climate in Chicago is more snow than sunshine, To preview their March 7th show at Double Door, Redeye reached out to the group to provide a exclusive playlist of eclectic jams guaranteed to help you escape the winter doldrums, if only in your mind.

"Lanca perfume" - Rita Lee

"Really awesome Brazilian tune with a very heavy-handed Doobie Brothers feel."

"La Prima Estate" - Erlend Øye

"We've always been huge fans of everything Erlend has done and his latest is no exception. One of my favorite songs sung in Italian by a Norwegian. At least top 5 in that category."

"Josephine"- Chris Rhea

"A classic. This disco version is pure vibes."

"Free" - Denise Williams

"We love that there was a time when artists could make songs with grooves this patient that could get a whole room dancing."

"Lotta Love" - Nicolette Larsen

"This is a song we would always put on CD-R mixes with titles like "Malibu beach mix 2009" or "Summer Vibez '07."

"A Love Of Your Own" - Ned Doheny

"Ned is an unsung hero. He's an amazing songwriter, everyone reading this should listen to his album "Hard Candy" immediately."

"You're My Number One" - Radiance

"We first got into this song when Groove Armada put Ray Mang's edit of it on one of their mixes years and years ago. There was also a great mix Dimitri from Paris made around the same time that included it. We've been playing it at pool and beach parties ever since."

"I'm A Wonderful Thing, Baby" - Kid Creole and the Coconuts

"This song instantly makes you want to have a tropical drink in my hand and my feet in the sand. Its one of the most exuberant songs we can think of and just makes you happy from the first note."

"Hupendi Muziki Wangu" - K.I.D.

"We just played this song in a forested sunrise party in Las Estacas, Mexico and it was a 2014 highlight thus far. It's perfectly structured and arranged to please."

"Rip It Up" - Orange Juice

"Edwin Collins is another hero of ours. We would put "Rip It Up" in the perfect song column."
