Pope Francis drops f-bomb during blessing at Vatican

March 03, 2014|RedEye staff

Oh, Pope Frank.

Italian speakers confirm video on YouTube shows the popular Pope Francis accidentally dropping an f-bomb while speaking from a window above St. Peter's Square at the Vatican.

Several news reports say Francis made the flub on Sunday as he was addressing the crowd. Francis accidentally said "cazzo" instead of "caso," a small swap that's kind of a big deal and effectively led him to say "in this f—k" instead of "in this case." He quickly caught and corrected himself, but the video landed on YouTube and international news channels within hours.

Born in Argentina to Italian parents, the pope is fluent in Italian—but speaks with a Spanish accent. That may be the cause of his pronunciation problems.
