Set at a clothing-optional beach where gay men cruise for sexual partners, the French thriller “Stranger By the Lake” contains many dangling bits and much graphic sex. (And sitting naked on rocks. Ouch.) It's also an eerie portrait of alienation and trust that unfolds after Franck (Pierre Deladonchamps) witnesses Michel (Christophe Paou) do something terrible but prefers to get closer rather than turn him in. The motivations may be questionable, but desire has a way of clouding even the clearest heads.
