Whatever the Seahawks are selling, the Bears should buy

I would like to begin by thanking the Seattle Seahawks.

Thanks to their thumping of the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl, we now know, now and forever, that there are two NFLs. And one blows the doors off the other.

The one NFL has gaudy, eye-popping passing stats. I don't even think they mean anything anymore. Oh, you know them. For you fantasy geeks, they're for you. They create buzz, conversation and highlights. Oh yeah, they sell tickets and boost ratings. Gaudy numbers. 455 yards passing? Yawn. Peyton Manning does that sometimes.

But the Seahawks know about the other NFL. The one with great, tough defensive players. On the line, in the secondary, and linebackers.

Oh, that other NFL is seductive. She's real pretty. Her best trick: She'll make you think that's all you need.

Thanks for the slap across the face, Seahawks. The Bears needed that. We all needed that. Because now we know how far we need to go. Now we know we need great ends and tackles. Look, I don't even know what a "hybrid player" is, but I know we need them. Ends who play linebacker, linebackers who play end, 3-4, 4-3, I'm confused.

I'll keep it simple. I want what they have. I guess I'll have to Google "large defensive backs in draft" to get where they're going. Thank God our defense was that bad, it eliminates illusions. If the NFL is a copycat league, I'm copying. Word for word.

We're also going to take those lessons of strength and toughness and apply them to Carlos Boozer. Oh, Carlos. Our time in Chicago is drawing to a close. The Bulls, and most people, think there's too much Peyton Manning and not enough Seahawks to your game. You know, they're right.

So remember that when we're looking for the final pieces to put around Derrick Rose.

And please, for the Blackhawks heading off to Sochi, you'll need toughness too. The hotel rooms, or barracks when it's three to a room, will make you tougher!

I expect everyone to return with a little more Seahawk in them.
