The Chicago Police Department is warning West Town residents of burglars reportedly breaking into local residences through their bedroom windows.

In a community alert released Sunday, police officials said they have seen an uptick of reported residential burglaries in the past week in which one or more people were breaking into residences through bedroom windows that were not secured.

The alert said in at least five incidents reported this month within the 12th District, which includes West Town, burglars entered homes to remove property during the morning or afternoon hours.

The alert said break-ins were reported in the 1600 block of West Huron Street on Jan. 17, the 1700 block of West Huron Street on Jan. 19, the 1600 block of West Huron Street on Jan. 20, the 1600 block of West Superior Street on Jan. 22, and the 1400 block of West Huron Street on Jan. 25.

To prevent burglary, officials suggest West Town residents keep the area around their homes well-lit, secure their windows and doors, and keep them in good repair.
