A Chicago man was accused of driving under the influence early Monday morning after police officers said they found him asleep in his car in a northbound Damen Avenue traffic lane.

Matthew Stehney, of the 1300 block of West Madison Street, was arrested just after 3 a.m. when officers allegedly found him "slumped over the wheel" in his car, which was obstructing traffic in the 2700 block of South Damen Avenue.

According to the police report, an officer removed Stehney's car key from the ignition and woke him up, and he appeared to be intoxicated. The report said Stehney told officers he had been on his way home from watching a football game at a friend's home.

Stenhey allegedly pleaded "nonstop" with the officers not to arrest him, saying it won't happen again. Stenhey was brought into the 10th District police station and search officers allegedly found a plastic baggie containing about $20 worth of a substance suspected to be cocaine.

Stenhey was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday afternoon and ordered held on a $10,000 D-bond.
