"The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus got zombie pranked by ultimate fan Nick Santonastasso while promoting the Feb. 9 return of the show in Tokyo.
Well-known to "Walking Dead" fans, cast and crew already for his zombie prank videos on Vine, Santonastasso was flown to Tokyo as part of FOX's social media driven #getFOXed campaign, which identifies super fans by creating unmatched fan experiences. FOX is the show's international broadcaster in 125 countries outside the U.S. AMC airs the show in the U.S.
Special effects guru/exec producer Greg Nicotero transformed Santonastasso into a zombie while Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes, manned the control room. Hidden cameras captured every angle of Reedus’ reaction, which was note very Daryl-like.
According to a FOX release, 17-year-old Santonastasso was born with a rare syndrome called Hanhart and has only one arm and no legs. Because of his outspoken love for "The Walking Dead," FOX said, Santonastasso was the perfect fan to launch the #getFOXed campaign.
The latest prank follows Santonastasso’s two-part viral "Zombie Prank" Vine series which you can see here and here.
"The Walking Dead" returns to AMC at 8 p.m. Feb. 9. Outside the U.S., it resumes the season Feb. 10 on FOX networks.
