The popular Movies in the Parks summer event could be adding some local talent to the lineup of movie screenings.

The Chicago Park District announced Thursday it will include up to 10 features, documentaries or shorts that focus on Chicago in its Movies in the Parks series.

Filmmakers can submit their work for the Chicago On Screen initiative by Feb. 28 to be evaluated by a selection panel. Submissions must be the person's original work, produced in the past three years, and have a "demonstrable and significant connection to Chicago or its neighborhoods and communities," according to the park district.

Selected filmmakers will be awarded with prizes up to $500.

The schedule for the Movies in the Parks will be announced in late spring. The series, which will feature more than 175 movie screenings, will run from June 12 through Aug. 31.
