Divvy plans to reopen system Thursday after extreme weather

January 08, 2014|By Mick Swasko, @swasko

Divvy plans to reopen its bike sharing system Thursday, Jan. 9 after being closed since Sunday.

Divvy said it remained closed Wednesday despite "less extreme" temperatures, while crews dig out stations from the snow and perform maintenance.

"As you saw this past week, even Chicago transit systems that have been around for decades have been challenged by this extreme weather," a statement posted to Divvy's Tumblr reads. "As the city's newest transit system, we'll try to minimize the time that Divvy is closed."

Divvy closed the system at 3 p.m. Sunday due to the "life threatening" wind chills that swept the area.
