Chicago police report North Side burglaries during snowstorm

January 07, 2014|By Rachel Cromidas, @rachelcromidas | RedEye

At the height of last weekend's snowstorm, burglars were making off with property around the North Side, Chicago police said in a community alert issued Tuesday afternoon.

Between Jan. 4 and 5, the alert said, a slew of Lincoln Park and Lakeview businesses were hit by burglars, who entered the retail and business establishments by breaking the glass of their front doors, the alert said.

The incidents were reported in the 800 block of West Webster Avenue, the 3000 block of North Halsted Street, and the 2000 block of North Racine Street, all areas with a number of restaurants and small businesses. The alert did not mention which stores were effected, but it said the businesses were likely hit overnight, after they were closed for the day or before they had been opened.

Police had no description of the offenders.
