Grey seal pup is first adorable birth of 2014 at Brookfield Zoo

It's a New Year's Day baby boy (seal pup)!

A grey seal pup was born at 7 a.m. Jan. 1 at Brookfield Zoo, the first birth of the year for the zoo and the first of its species to be born there. The zoo announced the birth Friday, noting the pup weighed 25 pounds at birth and is expected to quadruple its weight over the next month.

The pup and his mom, Lily, will remain off display at the zoo for several weeks, but the video above posted by the zoo should be enough to hold everyone over.

A 10-year-old seal named Lily is the pup mother, and the birth brings the seal population up to six.
