Here's the music news you missed over the holidays

January 03, 2014|By Ernest Wilkins, @ErnestWilkins | RedEye Sound Board

If you're still getting back on the grid after your holiday, you may have missed a few things music-realted. Let's catch you up!

Drake dropped not one, but TWO new songs.

Maybe he got hyped watching all the bowl games? We don't know. He liberated the two tracks "We Made It Freestyle (feat. Soulja Boy)" and "Trophies" over the past six days. Listen to them below. (Heads up: "Trophies" should be the song you play when you win your softball championship this year.)

Rick Ross got sued, then immediately sued LMFAO.

So Freeway Ricky Ross, basically one of the most successful drug dealers in history, isn't too happy that Rick Ross has taken his name. Ross sued--wait, hold on. Real Ross sued Fake Ross and Fake Ross won on the grounds that using his name was an attempt to "make music out of fictional tales of dealing drugs and other exploits-–some of which related to plaintiff." You'd think after all of that, a courtroom would be the last place Fake Ross would want to be in. You would be wrong. Rozay has now sued LMFAO for that "Everyday I'm shuffling" line from "Party Rock Anthem." Oh brother. M-M-M-M-Maybe Ross should just take the rest of the month off and get back to recording?

Miley Cyrus spoke on Beyonce and attracted the full fury of the Beyhive

Ok, so ALLEGEDLY, Cyrus formally declared herself the heir to the throne currently occupied by Beyonce in an upcoming issue of British publication Love Magazine (us neither.) Icon of industry Perez Hilton published some of the ALLEGED quotes earlier in the week. Here's one of them.

“As Beyonce grows in motherhood and all the crap it does to your body, it will create a vacuum for fresh young faces to rise up and no one else can properly fill that void right now. I’m the only white female singer that could fill that slot right now and do it right, you know? I’m just the total package, you know? All things must start and end and I hope to have the same success as other icons in the game when my run is over. But for now, my run is just starting.”

WELP. As you may suspect, the alleged quote kickstarted a firestorm of arguing and name-calling from the Beyhive online. It will remain to be seen if these quotes are legit or not. For the sake of my Twitter timeline, I hope they're false.

... And now, a word from the Purple One:

If you didn't click, Prince said Janelle Monae had the best album and video (for "Q.U.E.E.N") of the year. Thanks, Prince!
