The Chicago Police Department warned West Side residents of an uptick in armed robbery reports this month.

In two community and business alerts released yesterday, the police department warned residents and business owners in the 12th District, which stretches from Division Street to Cermak Road and from the Dan Ryan Expressway to parts of Western Avenue, of an increase in armed robberies, including robberies to restaurant delivery drivers.

In several reported incidents around the 2900 block of West Walnut Street in East Garfield Park, a man reportedly brandished a handgun at restaurant delivery drivers and demanded food and money. The incidents took place in the evening on Dec. 22 and Dec. 27, according to the alert.

In a second community alert, police said groups of up to four men reportedly knocked on doors in the neighborhood around the United Center and demanded money from residents who answered the doors while holding handguns.

The incidents reportedly took place in the 100 block of North Hoyne Avenue on Dec. 22 at 9:45 p.m., and the 1900 block of West Maypole Avenue on Dec. 26 at 6:05 p.m.
