WXRT midday DJ Terri Hemmert had an unexpected visitor during her show Wednesday. He had some good news.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel stopped by to declare Dec. 18 "Terri Hemmert Day in Chicago" in honor of Hemmert's 40 years at WXRT (and as Chicago's Beatles expert).

Hemmert started at WXRT in 1973 as an overnight announcer and public affairs director. She has hosted the morning drive radio program and Sunday morning's "Breakfast with the Beatles." She's been the midday DJ since 1992.

Along with her extensive career at 93.1 WXRT, Hemmert is a member of the broadcasting department faculty at Columbia College Chicago and is co-host for the Chicago Symphony's Classic Encounters series.
