The Chicago Police Department released a community alert Tuesday afternoon warning of an uptick in burglaries in West Town early this month.

The alert said a burglar, who is likely male, black, 25- to 30-years old, 5'9", and 140 lbs., forced open side and rear windows and doors of apartments in West Town, near Ukrainian Village and Wicker Park, and stole property.

The incidents were reported at apartments in the 1000 block of North Wood Street on Dec. 2, the 900 block of North Wood Street on Dec. 3, and the 2100 block of West Division Street on Dec. 6.

Police officials suggested residents keep their properties well lit, secure windows and doors and repair any broken ones, and report suspicious activity immediately.
