A Chicago man and woman were arrested Thursday afternoon and accused of stealing over $9,000 worth of merchandise from the Home Depot on North Avenue.

Migdalia Arroyo, 53, of the 1800 block of North Kedvale Avenue, was employed in customer service at Home Depot when police officers were called to the store to arrest her on charges of retail theft.

Arroyo allegedly helped Jesse Caez, 68, of the 2200 block of North Laporte Avenue, pay just $8.92 at the cash register for over $800 worth of items on Dec. 5, the police report said. Store surveillance footage and receipts showed that they had also taken more  than $8,000 worth of products from the home supply store in April.

According to the police report, Arroyo told police that Caez asked her to "help him out and take care of him when he comes to Home Depot," and she had done so on multiple occasions since April.

Arroyo and Caez were brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Friday afternoon and released on $25,000 I-bonds with electronic home monitoring required.
