Navy Pier '50 Shades of Grey' tree nixed at Winter Wonderfest

December 06, 2013|By Mick Swasko, @swasko | RedEye

DNAinfo reports: A "50 Shades of Grey" themed Christmas tree at Navy Pier's Winter Wonderfest has been nixed before the event has even started.

The tree, which used handcuffs, grey paint chips and ornaments numbered 1 through 50 as ornaments, was decorated by events and design firm Ivan Carlson, who was commissioned to make all of the 95 trees for this year's fest.

The story states that a worker pointed the tree out during set up, and organizers at the pier asked Ivan Carlson to take it down before the event opened to the public Friday.
