Xbox One gives users technical fouls for swearing

The Kinect feature on the console can hear everything players say, and it apparently isn't pleased

Ah, the good old days when letting loose a cannon fire of expletives in the comfort of your own home was just between you and your television.

According to a report on Deadspin, the new Xbox One can hear and see just about everything you say and do— including swear words. And if you’re playing NBA 2K14, you might just get a technical foul for that.

In a video uploaded to YouTube by Xbox One user “randomfrankp,” the player is heard saying several cuss words before he is given a technical foul “due to bad language.” As expected, more cuss words ensue.

Other Xbox One users have reported similar experiences in games like FIFA 14. One redditor who was playing the soccer video game uploaded a photo of a letter he received from the club’s board of directors, asking the user to tone down the language.

Xbox One users have commented on the video and suggested disabling the Kinect feature as a quick remedy that will allow players to go on that four-letter tirade for as long and as loud as they please.
