'Return to the MAC' rap is NIU's Super Bowl Shuffle

December 03, 2013|By Mick Swasko, @swasko | RedEye

This year's best team in the state of Illinois has an anthem.

Sung to the beat of Mann's "Mack"--which also features Snoop Dogg and IYAZ--two NIU alumni have penned what is the 2013 equivalent of the Bears' 1985 "Super Bowl Shuffle." NIU's student newspaper the Northern Star reports the brothers, Nolan and Trevor O'Malley, wrote the song to honor the Huskies' potential to capture their third consecutive Mid America Conference title. The tune features shoutouts to several of the team's players, including quarterback Jordan Lynch, and proudly proclaims the team's status as BCS busters.

The pair has also made the song availible for free download, and told the Northern Star another song is planned if the team makes it to this year's Fiesta Bowl.
