'Family Guy' kills off Brian Griffin

"Family Guy" writers weren't kidding earlier this year when they said a main character would die this season.

On Sunday's episode, titled "Life of Brian," the Griffin family dog is killed after he's hit by a car as he sets up a hockey net in the street. With Stewie dismantling his time-machine earlier in the episode, and a new dog, "Vinny," coming into the picture, it appears the change may be permanent. "Sopranos" actor Tony Sirico voices "Family Guy's" new mutt.

"You've given me a wonderful life," Brian says as he lays bleeding at the vet's office. "I love you all."

At this year's ComicCon, "Family Guy" writers hinted in a panel that a member of the Griffin family would be killed off and replaced by a new character.

It remains to be seen how permanent the move might be. Just two weeks ago, the show ended with what looked like the death of Meg. She was back the next week.
