DePaul University sent out a public safety alert Friday morning warning of a mugging that was reported Thursday evening just off campus.

The alert said a male student was walking with two female friends around Fullerton Avenue and Fremont Street at 9:40 p.m. when three unknown men began shouting "rude and vulgar comments" at the group. The three men than began to punch and kick the male student.

The offenders fled with public safety personnel approached the scuffle, and were not caught, the alert said.

The student did not receive medical treatment, the alert said. The alert reminded readers that they can use an escort service between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. while traveling on the Lincoln Park campus.
