McCown's secret--it's the weapons, silly!

Here's a debate that's fun, challenging and a complete waste of your time.

There seem to be theories about Josh McCown's success. Some say "Hey, it's the QB. He's awesome. Doesn't make any mistakes, doesn't turn it over."

And some say it's the coach and the system. Marc Trestman is a genius, and he did this with Rich Gannon and on and on.

First off, I'm grateful for both. When you've been through, oh let's see, Caleb Hanie, Todd Collins, Henry Burris or Jonathan Quinn (my God, we are survivors, aren't we?), plus our starters who were technically backups—Craig Krenzel?—I'll take a McCown any day. I love the smarts and the humility. Seems like a great guy.

And I'll take Trestman. While walking through a desert, we somehow found this guy. Imagine: a coach in Chicago who can work with QBs. I'd like a drink of water, please.

But really, it's the weapons. Call him a game manager if you like, but no game manager has Martellus Bennett, Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery. He's more of a point guard to me. A distributor. No, I don't think Gannon had those when he won the MVP playing for Trestman. And here's another thing McCown has: a decent offensive line.

And until this year, Cutler hasn't had any of these things either. So remember that when we're all saying he isn't worth a big-time contract. Oh, interesting. Because, as we know in Chicago, we can just go get a quarterback anytime. They're everywhere!

Watch it with the short memories. They'll hurt you.

You know who isn't hurting? Northern Illinois. The pride of the Land of Lincoln. It's November, it's Huskie time! (I made that up. Go ahead, use it.) Yes, I think they're headed for yet another BCS bowl bid!

Northwestern and Illinois: Seriously guys, start recruiting players from there. It can't hurt. They say the best MAC team is better than middling Big Ten teams. That makes Northern Illinois the best team in the state.

Gosh I love football, it makes waiting for Derrick Rose's return easier. Oh, he is back already? Yikes.

Let me know when he's BACK back.
