Who's a better date than your own dog?
The Houndstooth Ball, an annual gala hosted by Chicago-based dog rescue group One Tail at a Time, will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. Dec. 6 at Architectural Artifacts (4325 N. Ravenswood). The ball, which welcomes dogs and dog owners alike, is the main annual fundraiser for the organization, which has found homes for more than 200 dogs this year.
The organization, Logan Square, works to facilitate adoptions of dogs from local pounds, as well as to find temporary foster homes for dogs at risk of being euthanized. One Tail at a Tme also puts on a series of community outreach programs throughout the year, designed to aid both dogs and their owners.
“Every year we put on a series of community pet days, which include distributing free vaccines, implanting computer chips, and providing spay and neuter services,” said Heather Owen, president of One Tail at a Time. “We also provide vet assistance for those who can’t afford it.”
This year’s Houndstooth Ball, which is the fifth for the organization, will feature a silent auction with several hot-ticket items, including Bulls and Blackhawks tickets, VIP experiences at popular Chicago venues such as Lincoln Hall, Schuba's Tavern and the Metro, gift certificates for several hot spots and more.
The annual One Tail at a Time calendar, which will be unveiled at the Houndstooth Ball, will feature the faces of several canine cuties, including some that were adopted through the One Tail at a Time organization.
Tickets to the ball are $60 per person, or $75 with a 2014 calendar and goodie bag. Tickets for canine companions are $25 each. Vegetarian-friendly dishes will be served, accompanied by an open bar, free photo booth and live entertainment provided by Toast and Jam DJs.
