For 30 local aspiring artists, they’ll be getting their chance to share their craft Nov. 21, with a little help from Yeezus.

Donda’s House’s Got Bars program takes 30 15-24 year olds interested in writing and performing music for a 12-week arts training, housed at The Ark of St. Sabina.

Students take a creative writing, health and wellness and studio recording classes during the training period, culminating in a performance of their original songs at the Lacuna Artist Lofts, 2150 S. Canalport.

The event will be headlined by Rhymefest, one of the instructors of the creative writing class for Got Bars, as well as Zzaje.

Donda’s House works to implement arts, health and wellness and literature education for Chicago’s youth, carrying out Donda West’s, Kanye West’s mother, vision. Donda West passed away in 2007.

Kanye is the co-founder and board member of the organization. Participants in the Got Bars program will get to go back stage and meet him at his Yeezus Concert next month.

Tickets for the Got Bars performance, Nov. 21 from 6 – 8 p.m., are available through eventbrite.com.
