The world’s largest cup of hot chocolate will be poured at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Runnner’s Expo at McCormick Place (2301 S Lake Shore Dr.). More than 900 gallons of hot chocolate will be served at the expo as runners get ready to take part in the Hot Chocolate 5K and 15K on Sunday at Grant Park.

Marshmallows also can be added to the massive mug through a “Marshmallow Wishes” donation, with all of the proceeds going to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The current record for the largest cup was set in January at the Festival of Chocolate in Tampa, Fla., where an 880-gallon mug of hot chocolate was presented.

The hot chocolate will be unveiled as part of an indoor “Halloween Extravaganza” from 3 to 8 p.m. on at McCormick Place. Free samples of the hot chocolate and trick-or-treating will be available to all attendees. The Candy Shoppe also will be selling chocolate items at the expo and donating 100 percent of the proceeds to the Little City Foundation, supporting those affected by developmental disabilities.

The expo continues throughout the rest of the weekend, and will be open to attendees from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
