Police warn of Hyde Park group-muggings

The Chicago Police Department is alerting District 2 residents of a pattern robberies by a group of muggers in Hyde Park.

In each of the incidents, which were reported at the 1300 block of East 50th Street and the 5100 block of South Harper Avenue on Oct. 18 just after 7:30 p.m, three to four offenders approached groups of multiple people, threatened them with a handgun, and demanded they empty their pockets, the police alert said.

The descriptions of the offenders varied, police said, but they were likely black, male, ages 15 to 21, and taller than 5'5" and weighing between 135 and 250 pounds each.

Police officials recommend that victims of a robbery remain calm, remember any physical characteristics of the robber, request contact information from witnesses, and never pursue the robber.
