Woman accused of stealing dental products from K-Mart

An Elmwood Park woman was arrested outside of an Irving Park K-Mart Sunday afternoon when store employees saw her stuff  a handful of dental hygiene products in her purse and leave the store without paying. county prosecutors said. The items included five Oral B toothbrushes and three packets of Trident gum, according to court records.

Samantha Hemphill, 25, was charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substances after police officers searched her and found one gram of cannabis, worth less than $10.00 on her person, according to the police report.

When officers asked Hemphill if she stole the toothbrushes and gum, she said "Yes," according to the police report. But when asked why she did it, she allegedly replied, "I don't know."

Hemphill was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday afternoon and released on a $10,000 I-bond.
