“Let me tell you something,” Rose proclaims in the voiceover for the video. “If you take away the money, if you take away the fame, the spotlight, if you take away the lifestyle and all the things that come with it, if you take away all the flash, what would you have left? Everything.”
But obsessives who might want grab some “flash” of their own -- like the watch or the earrings he models for the camera -- at Cumings and Steele are out of luck. Though the storefront in the video reads “Est. 1967,” and appears to have its own website at cumingsandsteelejewlers.com, there’s no shop to be heard of in Chicago or elsewhere. Instead, “Cumings and Steele” is the combination of Los Angeles-based Kevin Steele and Chelsea Cumings' names. The two wrote the copy for the ad. Cumings also served as art director for the commercial.
“We didn’t think (our names) would even make it into the commercial,” Steele said, reached for comment Tuesday. “It was just a special little thing for us ... It was truly an honor for everyone involved to get to work with Derrick. It's rare to get to work with an athlete that truly is full of humility and passion for the game. We can't wait to see the city of Chicago get their hero back on the hardwood."
