Daniel Radcliffe (center) and Jon Hamm (right) star as the same character… (Ovation )

October brings three unexpected gems to TV: "A Young Doctor's Notebook" on Ovation, "Full Circle" on Audience and "The Returned" on Sundance.

"A Young Doctor's Notebook" (Oct. 2) stars Daniel Radcliffe and Jon Hamm, who play the same Russian doctor at different times in his life. "Full Circle" (Oct. 9), from playwright Neil LaBute, follows the individual conversations of 11 people whose lives turn out to be intertwined. "The Returned"  (Oct. 31) is a creepy French drama in which dead people come back years later with no memory of what has happened to them. They aren't zombified, but they haven't aged a day. (An American remake is in the works from A&E.)

It's going to be a frightfully fantastic month of television all around. AMC's "The Walking Dead" shuffles back onto our screens (Oct. 13) and witches take over FX's "American Horror Story" in its third iteration, called "Coven" (Oct. 9). Don't forget vamps and werewolves: CW's "The Vampire Diaries" returns Oct. 3, welcoming its spawn, "The Originals," on the same night. And a new (old) vamp, "Dracula," debuts Oct. 25 on NBC.
