During his attempted heist of a South Shore public school Tuesday morning, a burglar refueled with some milk he found in the school, county prosecutors said.

Raheem Smith, 20, of the 700 block of East 84th Place in South Shore, was arrested just before 4 a.m. Tuesday morning after police officers  responding to alarms at the South Shore Fine Arts Academy.

Smith was inside the school at the time wearing a face mask, prosecutors said, where he drank from cartons of milk, discharged a fire extinguisher, and used a hammer to smash a security system and two cameras, causing close to $10,000 in damages.

Officers told Smith to open the front door to the school, the police report said, and he did. They then arrested him and charged him with burglary to the school and criminal damage to government property.

Smith was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Wednesday afternoon and ordered held on $75,000 bond.
