A previous version of this story included incorrect information from the Chicago Police Department on the date of the muggings. They were reported on Sept. 21, not Aug. 21.

A man wearing a clown mask may be responsible for recent muggings in parts of Lakeview encompassed by the 19th District, Chicago police officials said in a community alert Monday afternoon.

Two people were mugged Sept. 21 after 2 a.m., police officials said in the alert, by three men, one of whom was wearing a clown mask.

One of the people who was attacked was asked to kneel on the ground before having a cell phone, wallet, money, and other items stolen, and the other was struck in the face by the clown-masked man, the alert said.

One incident was reported in the 700 block of West Melrose Street, and the other in the 3100 block of North Clifton Avenue.
