An Auburn-Gresham man was arrested Saturday evening and charged with armed robbery after he allegedly held up a family barbecue, county prosecutors said.

A group of West Woodlawn residents were hosting a barbecue in their backyard when Leonard Garner, 22, of the 8100 block of South Marshfield Avenue, allegedly crashed the party with a hand gun, the police report said.

"You know what this is, get on the ground," Garner allegedly told the group; he then went through the pockets of three men, all in their late 40s, the report said, stealing two cell phones, two wallets and $50.

Police officers tracked down Garner after he fled the backyard, the report said, and he was identified by the owners of the phones and wallets.

Garner was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday afternoon and ordered held on $300,000 bond.
