Jim Cornelison sings the National Anthem before the start of a Blackhawks… (Chris Sweda )
It’s the story of tenor meets racetrack …
Jim Cornelison, the man best known for singing his brains out while Blackhawks fans wildly applaud at the start of every home game, will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the start of the Dollar General 300 powered by Coca-Cola on Sept. 14 at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet.
Cornelison gained household recognition after using his pipes to belt the Blackhawks all the way to the Stanley Cup in 2010. The world-class tenor first came to Chicago in 1995 at the request of the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and has traveled all around the world, performing with various opera companies in places such as London, Brussels, New York and San Francisco. Cornelison has also performed at several Bears games and at Medinah Country Club for the 2012 Ryder Cup.
The weekend will be filled with races at Chicagoland Speedway, as it hosts the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup for the third consecutive year.
