He told police officers he brings his gun everywhere. But they told him the Park District didn't allow it.

Jamaal Applewhite, 28, of Waukegan, was arrested at the weekend's Air and Water show on charges of unlawful weapons possession after he was caught bringing a loaded gun through a security checkpoint at the festival, county prosecutors said.

Police officers were at Castaways, the North Avenue Beach bar, when part-time security guards working the Air and Water show alerted them that they had found a gun in a man's bag. The gun was a Glock Pistol loaded with 13 live rounds, and "easily accessible," the report said.

Applewhite told officers that the pistol belonged to him and "travels with him all the time," the report said. Applewhite is a registered gun owner with a valid FOID card, the report said.

Applewhite was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on Monday afternoon and held on $50,000 bond.
