An Englewood man almost paid for a T-shirt at Wrigley Field with fake money, county prosecutors said, but a witness got in his way.

Tyree Green, 28, of the 400 block of West 72nd Street, was arrested Tuesday night at Wrigley Field and charged with multiple counts of battery and theft after a witness told police officers he was trying to buy Cubs merchandise with counterfeit bills, according to court records.

Green allegedly gave a fake $20 to a street vendor while visiting the field with a companion, according to the police report. Two officers approached Green to interview him after the witness's tip-off, around 9:40 p.m., the report said. Then Green allegedly struck one officer in the chest with his elbow and pushed another officer in an attempt to escape. Officers found another counterfeit $20 on his person when they arrested Green, the report said.

Green was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Wednesday afternoon and was held on $25,000 bond.
