Travelers get rewarded with miles they can use on future flights. Shoppers earn reward points when they buy makeup, shoes and beer. And they can save money when they use their rewards cards at grocery stores.
Now, the Chicago Park District on Tuesday announced it is introducing its own Park Points loyalty rewards program.
Chicagoans can link up their social media accounts and collect points they can later use to bid on city experiences and excursions. So far, 11 items are up for auction online.
For example, the starting bid is 300 points for a two-hour Fireworks Boat Tour for up to 10 people. The winner will board the boat at DuSable Harbor and go along the lakefront to the Museum Campus before heading back to the harbor to watch the Navy Pier fireworks.
Want nine hours of sailing lessons at Burnham Harbor? The starting bid is 400 points. Or kick the ball around with four friends in a private one-hour soccer lesson with Chicago Fire midfielder Brendan King. The bidding starts at 500 points.
Users who sign up online at chiparkpoints.com can immediately earn up to 650 points by linking Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, FourSquare accounts, following the Park District on Twitter and Instagram, liking the Facebook page and adding a phone number to the profile.
Reward members can earn more points by visiting the district's website and social media accounts, registering for programs and events and checking in at local parks.
