A Lakeview taxi driver was assaulted just before midnight Sunday, county prosecutors said, while pulled over trying to fix a broken radio.

Police arrested Jamol Turman, 25, at 909 W. Belmont Ave., and charged Turman with battery, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of less than 2.5 grams of cannabis.

According to the police report, Turman, of Rogers Park, asked the 59-year-old cab driver for a ride, and the driver refused because the cab was not in service. Turman then allegedly slapped him in the head and struck him with the back of the taxi door, the report said, stating, "I'm bigger than you, I will destroy you."

The driver was not treated for any injuries, according to the report.

Turman, who was brought to the Cook County Criminal Courthouse Monday afternoon, was given a bond of $5,000.
